The proposed legislation, Substitute Bill No. 6722, establishes a grant program aimed at reimbursing certain fees for veterans and sponsors of veterans participating in apprenticeship programs. Effective July 1, 2025, the Commissioner of Consumer Protection, in collaboration with the Labor Commissioner and the executive director of the Technical Education and Career System, will create a program that allows veterans and their sponsors to apply for reimbursement of licensure, certification, registration, or tuition fees associated with relevant occupations and trade programs. Eligible reimbursements include fees paid to the Department of Consumer Protection for examinations and initial licensure or certification, as well as annual renewal fees for five years, and tuition fees up to $1,000 charged by the Technical Education and Career System.

Additionally, the bill mandates that the involved commissioners submit a report every six months starting January 1, 2027, detailing the number of applications approved and total reimbursements made, along with legislative recommendations for program improvements. The bill appropriates $100,000 from the General Fund to the Department of Consumer Protection for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2026, to support the grant program. There are no deletions from current law noted in this bill.
