Senate Bill No. 296, also known as Public Act No. 24-105, establishes a task force to study the enforcement of provisions concerning roaming livestock, specifically to prevent undesired interactions between roaming swine and bovines. The task force will consist of members appointed by various legislative leaders and the Commissioner of Agriculture or their designee. The task force is required to submit a report on its findings and recommendations by January 1, 2025, and will terminate upon submission of the report or on the same date, whichever is later.

The bill also amends Section 22-364 of the general statutes by inserting new language that authorizes animal control officers or regional animal control officers to seek enforcement orders, including injunctions, from the superior court for violations of the section regarding roaming dogs or livestock. Additionally, the bill substitutes language in Section 47-43 of the general statutes to clarify that proprietors of lands must make and maintain fences sufficient to contain their livestock and prevent them from roaming at large. The bill was approved on June 4, 2024.
