Substitute Senate Bill No. 1162, now Public Act No. 23-146, mandates that each municipal law enforcement unit in Connecticut hold quarterly community roundtable meetings with various stakeholders, including representatives from social services, mental health agencies, organizations combating gun violence, and the judicial branch. These meetings aim to facilitate information sharing, develop partnerships to reduce crime and gun violence, and enhance the accountability of law enforcement to the community. The law enforcement units have the discretion to hold additional meetings beyond the quarterly requirement, and all meetings must be open to the public.

However, the bill includes a provision that allows for the cancellation of a meeting if the chief of the law enforcement unit, the municipality's chief executive officer, and the civilian police review board (if one exists) collectively agree that the meeting is unnecessary. This flexibility is intended to ensure that resources are used effectively while still promoting community engagement and collaboration in addressing public safety concerns.
