 AN ACT CONCERNING ASSAULT OF A SPORTS OFFICIAL.
 Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General
 Assembly convened:
1         Section 1. (NEW) (Effective October 1, 2021) (a) For the purposes of this
2      section, "sports official" means any person who officiates or enforces the
3      rules at an amateur sporting or athletic event, including, but not limited
4      to, an umpire, referee, judge, timekeeper or scorer.
 5       (b) A person is guilty of assault of a sports official when such person,
 6     with intent to intimidate or harass, or to retaliate against, another person
 7     on account of the performance by such other person of such other
 8     person's duties as a sports official, causes physical injury to such other
 9     person while such other person is performing his or her duties as a
10     sports official.
11       (c) Assault of a sports official is a class C felony.
        This act shall take effect as follows and shall amend the following
        sections:
