Bill No: SR 118
Author: Niello (R)
Introduced: 6/11/26
Vote: Majority
SUBJECT: Prostate Cancer Awareness Month
SOURCE: Author
DIGEST: This resolution designates September 2026 as Prostate Cancer
Awareness Month in California.
ANALYSIS: This resolution makes the following legislative findings:
1) Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed nonskin cancer and the second
leading cause of cancer-related deaths among men in the United States.
2) The risk of prostate cancer increases significantly after 50 years of age and is
higher among individuals with a family history of the disease. Prostate cancer
often presents no noticeable symptoms in its early stages, making early
detection through appropriate screening critically important.
3) Increasing public awareness, education, and proactive communication between
patients and health care providers can save lives and protect families.
This resolution urges increased awareness of the importance of continued vigilance
in prostate cancer testing.
