DIGEST: This resolution commemorates August 15, 2025 as Korean
Independence Day.
ANALYSIS: This resolution makes the following legislative findings:
1) August 15, 2025, marks the 80th anniversary of the Independence of the
Republic of Korea.
2) Korean Independence Day or Gwangbokjeol, commemorates the liberation of
Korea from Japanese colonization on August 15, 1945.
3) California is home to more than 530,000 Korean Americans who celebrate this
important holiday. The Korean American community has enriched the cultural,
social, and economic landscape of California.
4) Korean Independence Day is an opportunity to celebrate the great contributions
of Korean Americans to the United States.
This resolution commemorates August 15, 2025 as Korean Independence Day.
