Existing law establishes the Office of the Inspector General, who is responsible for contemporaneous oversight of internal affairs investigations and the disciplinary process of the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. Existing law requires the Inspector General, upon completion of an audit or review, as specified, to prepare a complete written report, which may be held as confidential and disclosed in confidence, as specified. Existing law prohibits the Inspector General from destroying any papers or memoranda used to support a completed review within 3 years after a report is released.
This bill would require the Inspector General to keep those papers or memoranda for an additional 2 years.
