ASSEMBLY COMMITTEE ON RULES
Blanca Pacheco, Chair
HR 15 (Aguiar-Curry) – As Introduced February 19, 2025
SUBJECT: The Power of Us Day.
SUMMARY: Declares April 28, 2025, as the Power of Us Day, acknowledges the work of
women who are inspired to do more for all, and duly recognizes their leadership. Specifically,
this resolution makes the following legislative findings:
1) The Power of Us event is a singular event that brings together women’s leadership
organizations including Leadership California, the California Legislative Women’s Caucus,
She Shares, California Women Lead, the Commission on the Status of Women and Girls, and
the Women’s Foundation California.
2) The Power of Us event recognizes women leaders who have and continue to make a
difference in our state and communities.
3) The percentage of women-owned businesses in California is less than 25 percent, only 4
percent CEOs, 33 percent directors, and 41 percent management positions are held by
women.
4) While we have made significant progress, women legislators remain disproportionate to the
state’s population. Women leaders and their success are critical to the health and well-being
of our families, state, nation, and overall economy.
5) The state and nation benefits from over one-half of our population being women, there is
much more to be done to ensure they are at the table and engaged in decisionmaking and
policymaking from communities to board rooms to legislative bodies.
6) The Power of Us event celebrates the work of women leaders and also empowers all of us to
find ways to strengthen their voice in all the rooms, chambers, and communities that are
determining the fate of our state and nation.
FISCAL EFFECT: This resolution is keyed non-fiscal by Legislative Counsel.
