DIGEST: This resolution proclaims October 21, 2024, and the same date each
year thereafter, as Hanbok Day in the State of California.
ANALYSIS: This resolution makes the following legislative findings:
1) The hanbok is the traditional attire of the Korean people.
2) The origin of the hanbok can be traced back to 2333 B.C.E., when the
legendary god-king Dangun founded the first Korean kingdom, Gojoseon.
Portraits of Dangun depict him dressed in garb resembling a hanbok. During the
10th century A.D., the hanbok evolved to represent the influences of the period.
3) To contribute to the people of the State of California and to celebrate the
diversity of American society, Korean Americans have worn the hanbok during
many important events throughout the State of California.
4) The hanbok represents important ancient traditions that benefit all of society by
demonstrating beauty, stability, and respect for ancient Korean tradition.
5) In 1996, the Republic of Korea declared October 21 as Hanbok Day.
This resolution proclaims October 21, 2024, and the same date each year
thereafter, as Hanbok Day in the State of California.
