Existing law makes it a misdemeanor to distribute intimate images of another person, as specified, that were intended to remain private, and that results in the serious emotional distress of the person depicted.
This bill would expand that crime by removing the requirement that the person depicted suffer serious emotional distress. The bill would additionally require a person who violates this provision to register as a sex offender. By expanding the scope of a crime, this bill would create a state-mandated local program.
The California Constitution requires the state to reimburse local agencies and school districts for certain costs mandated by the state. Statutory provisions establish procedures for making that reimbursement.
This bill would provide that no reimbursement is required by this act for a specified reason.
