This bill proposes to amend current statutes by adding a new section, 38-387, to title 38, chapter 2.1, article 1 of the Arizona Revised Statutes. The new provisions require that, at the discretion of the Governor, either the Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of State, Attorney General, State Treasurer, or Superintendent of Public Instruction must be absent from the vicinity of the seat of government during significant events such as the inauguration of state elected officials and the Governor's State of the State Address. The excused official is mandated to remain at least 35 miles away from the seat of government during these events.

Additionally, the bill mandates the Department of Public Safety to establish a protective detail for the excused elected official, which must provide safe and secure housing, transportation with an escort, appropriate communications, and a secure announcement to agency directors regarding the official representing continuity of state government. These provisions aim to ensure the safety and continuity of government operations during critical events.
