This bill proposes to amend section 15-231 of the Arizona Revised Statutes by establishing a tribal education liaison office within the Department of Education. The new office will be responsible for reviewing and disaggregating student data for individuals who are members of federally recognized Indian tribes or identify as Native American, in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.

Additionally, the bill mandates that the office consult with federally recognized Indian tribes in Arizona to develop relevant policies and guidelines and seek to create a memorandum of understanding with these tribes regarding culturally appropriate uses of the disaggregated data. The current law remains unchanged, with the new provisions being inserted to enhance the support and representation of Native American students within the educational system.
