This bill proposes to amend existing Arizona statutes related to health care insurance by adding provisions that require various types of insurance providers to cover prosthetic devices. Specifically, it mandates that hospital service corporations, medical service corporations, health care services organizations, disability insurers, and group or blanket disability insurers must provide coverage for prosthetic devices for subscribers, enrollees, or insured individuals starting January 1, 2027. The coverage must include prosthetic devices that meet the medical needs as determined by the treating health care provider, as well as additional devices deemed necessary for engaging in physical and recreational activities.

The bill also specifies the types of physical and recreational activities for which additional prosthetic devices may be covered, including running, bicycling, swimming, climbing, skiing, snowboarding, and participation in team or individual sports. The current statutes remain unchanged, while the new provisions will be inserted to ensure comprehensive coverage for prosthetic devices, thereby enhancing access to necessary medical equipment for individuals with disabilities.
