If enacted, this bill would amend current Arizona statutes to require the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS) contractors to provide coverage for the diagnosis and treatment of mild obstructive sleep apnea. This includes patient screening and the use of a neuromuscular tongue muscle stimulator, which is defined as a removable intraoral mouthpiece that utilizes electrodes to deliver neuromuscular stimulation to the tongue, thereby strengthening the tongue musculature. This device must be FDA-authorized and provided through a durable medical equipment benefit.
Additionally, the bill makes a technical change to the language regarding the implementation of limited benefit coverage for eligible incarcerated individuals and committed youth. Specifically, it replaces the phrase "the individuals'" with "each individual's" to clarify the reference to the expected date of release from correctional facilities. The rest of the current statute remains unchanged.
