If enacted, this bill would introduce a concurrent memorial urging the U.S. Congress and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to eliminate the federal gas tax on Arizona's Cleaner Burning Gas. Specifically, it would request the elimination of this tax for gas sold in Maricopa and Pinal County during the summer months of May 1 to September 30. Additionally, the bill would seek to grant the EPA Administrator emergency authority to waive the federal gas tax on EPA-approved gas blends in Arizona that are deemed necessary to meet National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) but are more expensive to produce than conventional gas.
The bill would also require the Arizona Secretary of State to transmit this memorial to key federal officials, including the Administrator of the EPA, the President of the U.S. Senate, the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, and each member of Congress from Arizona. Overall, the bill aims to advocate for changes at the federal level regarding gas taxation in Arizona, while the current statutes regarding gas taxes remain unchanged.
