This bill proposes to establish the Arizona School Fitness Program within the Arizona Department of Education (ADE) to recognize public schools that choose to participate in a nationally recognized physical fitness test or event. The ADE will be responsible for developing guidelines and identifying best practices and resources for participating schools.
Additionally, the bill allows schools that opt into the Fitness Program to include a designation for the program in their annual report cards, which are mandated by current law under section 15-746. The current statutes remain unchanged, but the new provisions will be added to enhance the focus on physical fitness in schools.
