The proposed bill would update current Arizona health care statutes by mandating the inclusion of
Duchenne muscular dystrophy in the newborn screening panel, to be implemented by October 1, 2027, or within two years of its addition to the Recommended Uniform Screening Panel by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. It would also extend the repeal date of the Collaborative Care Uptake Fund and the Arizona Nurse Education Investment Pilot Program to
June 30, 2027, and adjust the fiscal years for nursing education appropriations to
2025-2026.
Additionally, the bill would expand the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS) by including traditional healing services, removing exclusions for speech therapy and cochlear implants for individuals over 21, and providing limited benefit coverage for incarcerated individuals prior to their release. It would also specify county contributions for the Arizona Long-Term Care System (ALTCS) for the fiscal year
2025-2026, outline penalties for counties failing to meet funding obligations, and establish a grant for outpatient dialysis treatment center construction. These changes aim to improve health care services and align state regulations with federal standards.
