This bill proposes to amend Arizona Revised Statutes by adding a new section, 23-207, which mandates that employers with fifteen or more employees provide reasonable accommodations for pregnant employees, unless such accommodations would cause undue hardship to the business. The bill outlines specific accommodations that may be provided, including modifications to equipment, additional breaks, assistance with manual labor, a private area for breastfeeding, flexible work schedules, and scheduling for prenatal health care visits.
Additionally, the bill prohibits employers from requiring employees to use their annual, vacation, or sick leave if a reasonable accommodation can be made. Employers are also required to post notices regarding these accommodations and include this information in employee handbooks. Written notice of these requirements must be provided to newly hired employees, current employees within 180 days of the law's effective date, and to pregnant employees within ten days of notification of their pregnancy. This act is referred to as the "Pregnant Workers Protection Act."
