The proposed bill establishes the Obesity Treatment Study Committee to evaluate the cost, effectiveness, and value of expanding coverage under the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS) to include comprehensive treatment for individuals living with obesity. The committee will consist of various members, including two senators and two representatives from different political parties, the Director of AHCCCS, the Director of the Department of Health Services, representatives from patient advocacy organizations, and medical professionals with experience in obesity treatment. The committee will meet at the call of the co-chairpersons and will not receive compensation, but members are eligible for reimbursement of expenses.

Additionally, the Study Committee is tasked with conducting a comprehensive study on the potential expansion of coverage, identifying resources or policy initiatives to enhance public health, and reviewing current policies to propose revisions for better outcomes. A report detailing the committee's activities and recommendations must be submitted to key state officials by December 31, 2025, and the committee will be repealed after September 30, 2026. This bill aims to address the growing issue of obesity and its associated health risks by potentially improving access to treatment through AHCCCS.
