If enacted, this bill would amend current statutes by adding new provisions that allow private school students residing in the attendance area of a public school to try out for interscholastic activities on behalf of that public school, ensuring that the policies governing their participation align with those for enrolled students. It would require parents of these private school students to provide written verification of their child's academic standing, specifically that they are receiving passing grades and making satisfactory progress. Additionally, the bill stipulates that private school students who were previously enrolled in another educational institution would be ineligible to participate in interscholastic activities for the remainder of that school year.

The bill also introduces regulations regarding participation fees, prohibiting public schools from charging homeschool or private school students more than their pro rata share of the program costs for interscholastic activities. This share is calculated based on the total budget for the activity divided by the number of participating students. Furthermore, the bill clarifies that public schools can still require all participating students to cover certain expenses related to interscholastic activities, as long as this requirement applies uniformly to all students, including those enrolled in the public school.
