This bill proposes several updates to current statutes regarding the disclosure of student directory information and parental involvement policies in Arizona schools. Under the new provisions, schools will be required to notify parents or eligible students about the types of information designated as directory information, their right to refuse such designation, and the timeframe for opting out. Additionally, the bill prohibits the disclosure of students' addresses, telephone numbers, or email addresses unless there is written consent from the parent or eligible student, or if the student has not opted out and the disclosure is for educational or school business purposes.

Furthermore, the bill mandates that school governing boards must adopt a policy to provide parental involvement information in either electronic or printed form and requires them to include a copy of this policy in an annual notice to parents. It also defines "eligible student" as a student who is at least 18 years old or emancipated. The bill makes technical changes to ensure compliance with federal regulations and clarifies that schools cannot release information that would violate the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
