If enacted, this bill would update current statutes by directing the Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation and Reentry (ADCRR) to conduct a comprehensive study regarding the potential conversion of the Marana Prison Site into a transitional facility for inmates nearing release. The study would assess the feasibility of establishing a program to provide transitional skills and connect inmates to additional services, as well as analyze existing resources and identify any further state resources needed for the facility and program.
Additionally, the bill mandates that ADCRR submit a report of the study's findings and recommendations to key state officials by June 1, 2026. Furthermore, the section detailing the study requirements would be repealed after June 30, 2026, ensuring that the provisions are time-bound and focused on the immediate evaluation of the Marana site for transitional use.
