If enacted, this bill would update current statutes by mandating the Arizona Department of Corrections (DOC) to conduct a comprehensive study regarding the potential use of the Marana prison site as a transitional facility for inmates nearing release. The study would specifically assess the feasibility of converting the site for inmates set to be released within 60 days, evaluate the establishment of a program to provide transitional skills and services, and analyze current resources available for this purpose while identifying any additional state resources needed.

The bill also requires DOC to submit a report detailing the study's findings and recommendations to key state officials, including the Governor and legislative leaders, by June 1, 2026. Furthermore, the provisions of this bill would be repealed after June 30, 2026, effectively setting a timeline for the study and its subsequent reporting.
