The proposed bill would update current statutes by inserting a new concurrent memorial that urges the Arizona Department of Water Resources (ADWR) and the Arizona State Land Department (ASLD) to invest in groundwater recharge infrastructure specifically in rural communities. This insertion emphasizes the importance of increasing groundwater recharge projects and encourages collaboration with the Water Infrastructure Finance Authority (WIFA) to support these initiatives.
Additionally, the bill would direct ADWR and ASLD to consider the increased groundwater supply from these projects in their models and decisions regarding the future health of the basin. This new language aims to enhance the focus on groundwater management and infrastructure development, while the existing statutes related to the administration of water resources and land management would remain unchanged.
