This bill proposes to amend current statutes by adding a new section, 15-120.05, to the Arizona Revised Statutes, which establishes requirements for public high schools that sponsor athletic teams or sports programs. Specifically, beginning August 1, 2026, these schools must provide an automated external defibrillator (AED) that is easily accessible, maintained in good working order, and located in proximity to athletic events. Additionally, each coach is required to complete a training course in CPR, first aid, and the use of AEDs that adheres to nationally recognized emergency cardiovascular care guidelines. The bill also allows schools to accept donations to support these requirements.

Furthermore, the bill appropriates $500,000 from the state general fund for fiscal year 2026 to implement these AED and training requirements. The Arizona Department of Education is tasked with distributing these funds to schools with a total ending cash balance of $5,000,000 or less, which can be used for purchasing and maintaining AEDs, CPR training kits, and other necessary goods and services. The appropriation is exempt from lapsing until June 30, 2027, ensuring that the funds remain available for the intended purposes.
