This bill proposes to amend section 38-849 of the Arizona Revised Statutes to exempt school resource officers (SROs) from the existing limitations on receiving pension payments from the Public Safety Personnel Retirement System (PSPRS) after they retire and are subsequently reemployed. Currently, certain conditions apply to retired members who return to work within six months of retirement, including the suspension of pension payments during reemployment. The bill adds SROs to the list of positions that are exempt from these conditions, which already includes fire inspectors and arson investigators.

In addition to the exemption for SROs, the bill includes technical changes to the language of the statute. The overall effect of this legislation would be to allow retired SROs to receive their pension payments while being reemployed in their roles without facing the restrictions that currently apply to other retired members of the PSPRS. The bill is expected to have no fiscal impact on the state General Fund.
