SB1626 is an emergency measure that establishes a six-member Study Committee on Registered Sex Offenders to evaluate the effectiveness of Arizona's sex offender registration laws. The committee will consist of three Senate members and three House members, with no more than two members from each chamber belonging to the same political party. Appointments require approval from the President of the Senate or the Speaker of the House, as applicable. The committee is tasked with studying current policies, examining the effectiveness of laws to prevent recidivism, and reviewing federal standards set by the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act and SORNA. The committee may request services from state agencies or political subdivisions without cost and use legislative staff for administrative support. A report of findings and recommendations is to be submitted by June 30, 2025, and the committee will be repealed on September 30, 2025. The act becomes effective immediately upon the Governor's signature due to the inclusion of an emergency clause.
