The bill SB1369 requires the Arizona Department of Education (ADE) to annually submit and publicly post two reports: a school safety report and a school learning conditions report. The school safety report will be based on a survey of all school districts and charter schools in Arizona, detailing incidents of bullying, fighting, sexual assault, threatening, intimidation, harassment, suicide, hazing, and other forms of physical attack. The school learning conditions report will be derived from surveys of students, parents, and school employees, covering topics such as school safety, climate, barriers to engagement, character education, student behavior management, curriculum content, and respect for individuals.
Additionally, the ADE must post the most recent information that each public school and local education agency reported to the U.S. Department of Education Office for Civil Rights for the Civil Rights Data Collection survey, ensuring compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 by redacting protected information. The bill prohibits the disclosure of personally identifiable student data in the surveys used for the reports. The deadline for submitting these reports is January 31 each year.
