SB1236 is a bill that amends the Arizona Revised Statutes relating to the registration of sex offenders on the internet sex offender website. The bill requires level one sex offenders to register on the website if they were at least 21 years old at the time of the commission of the offense and were sentenced for a dangerous crime against children (DCAC) after committing certain sexual offenses, whether completed or preparatory. These offenses include sexual abuse, molestation of a child, sexual conduct with a minor, child sex trafficking, taking a child for the purpose of prostitution, luring a minor for sexual exploitation, aggravated luring of a minor for sexual exploitation, and continuous sexual abuse of a child.
The bill also specifies that the requirement to register applies to offenders who were 18 years or older at the time of the offense and includes offenders of any child sex trafficking offense if the victim is under 12 years old or if the offender was sentenced for a DCAC. Additionally, the bill states that the Department of Public Safety must add the names and information of offenders convicted of these offenses before the effective date of the act to the internet sex offender website within 12 months of the general effective date. The bill applies to offenses committed before, on, or after its effective date.
