SB1211 is an emergency measure that amends Arizona state law to allow pharmacists to dispense naloxone hydrochloride or any other FDA-approved opioid antagonist without a signed prescription. The bill also removes the requirement for pharmacists to report specific prescription information when dispensing these drugs and eliminates the need for the Arizona State Board of Pharmacy to establish dispensing protocols for opioid antagonists.
The bill makes additional changes, including adjusting the amount the executive director of the Arizona State Board of Pharmacy can transfer from the Board's fund to the Poison and Drug Information Center that serves Maricopa County, raising it to $1,000,000 annually. It also exempts prescribed naloxone or other opioid antagonists from laws regarding drug mislabeling or misbranding. The act is considered an emergency measure and will become effective immediately upon the Governor's signature.
