HB2637 proposes amendments to the Arizona Revised Statutes concerning the State Lake Improvement Fund. The bill introduces provisions for the Arizona State Parks Board (ASPB) to use the fund's monies to purchase drones. These drones are intended for two primary purposes: cleaning plastic, algae, biomass, and other floating trash from lakes and waterways, and for use by law enforcement and fire service agencies in search, rescue, and recovery operations, as well as training in drone operation. The drones used for cleaning must be equipped with time-stamped and GPS locating data sensors for constant monitoring, as well as collision avoidance systems.
Additionally, the bill expands the entities eligible to undertake projects involving the expenditure of monies from the fund to include the governing body of a fire district, provided the projects do not interfere with vested water rights or the operation of water projects. The bill also makes technical changes to the language, such as correcting the term "gasoline powered" to "gasoline-powered" and clarifying the use of the fund's monies. The bill is set to become effective on the general effective date.
