The bill SB1061 proposes to extend the deadlines for committees of reference (COR) in Arizona to hold public hearings and deliver their final sunset review reports. Currently, the law requires these actions to be completed by the third Friday in January. The new bill changes this deadline to the last day in January, allowing additional time for CORs to receive public testimony and finalize their recommendations after receiving the preliminary sunset review report.

In addition to extending the deadlines, the bill also makes technical changes to the language of the existing law. However, it does not introduce any new requirements or fiscal impacts on the state General Fund. The Governor vetoed the bill, citing that legislators already have the ability to hold hearings prior to the established deadlines at the start of the legislative session.
