The bill HB2148 amends Arizona Revised Statutes by adding new requirements for the inspection of smoke and fire dampers within fire protection systems. These inspections, when carried out pursuant to a building or fire code adopted by a city, town, or county, must be performed in accordance with the standards established by a nationally recognized standards developing organization. The bill also stipulates that by January 1, 2025, each city, town, or county that has adopted a fire code must adopt a regulation to enforce these new inspection requirements.

The bill removes the provision that allowed the state forester and state fire marshal to provide certified inspectors and other resources to assist with these inspections. Additionally, it specifies that the new inspection requirements do not apply to individual residential rental properties or multifamily residential properties. The bill becomes effective on the general effective date.
