This resolution recognizes Randall Christy for his significant efforts in saving the Great Passion Play in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, and celebrates the sixtieth anniversary of the Christ of the Ozarks statue. The Great Passion Play, part of the Five Sacred Projects established by the Elna M. Smith Foundation in 1965, faced closure in 2012 due to financial difficulties. Christy, the founder of The Gospel Station Network, successfully raised $75,000 in just ten days to secure the production's future, emphasizing his belief that the Passion Play should continue for future generations. The play has attracted over eight million visitors, making it the most attended outdoor play in the United States.
Additionally, the resolution highlights the Christ of the Ozarks statue, which stands seven stories tall and is a prominent attraction in the region. Dedicated in 1966, the statue will celebrate its sixtieth anniversary this year. The House of Representatives expresses its appreciation for Christy's contributions and acknowledges the importance of both the Great Passion Play and the statue to the community and visitors alike. A copy of the resolution will be presented to Christy by the Chief Clerk of the House upon its adoption.
