The resolution recognizes and commends Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. for its exceptional service and leadership both in Arkansas and globally. Founded on November 17, 1911, at Howard University, it is the first international African American fraternity established at a historically black college. The fraternity is built on the principles of manhood, scholarship, perseverance, and uplift, encouraging its members to exemplify these values through community service and personal development. With over 700 chapters worldwide, including 20 in Arkansas, Omega Psi Phi actively contributes to various charitable organizations and invests significantly in the education of future African American leaders.
The resolution highlights the fraternity's commitment to community engagement, including mentorship programs and scholarships for local youth. It also acknowledges the legacy of notable members who have made significant contributions to society. As Omega Psi Phi approaches its 114th anniversary in 2025, the resolution serves to honor its ongoing dedication to social action and service within the African American community. Upon adoption, a copy of the resolution will be presented to the fraternity's leadership by the Chief Clerk of the House of Representatives.
