This resolution honors the Mills University Studies High School Lady Comets basketball team for their remarkable achievement in winning the Class 4A conference championship and reaching the semifinals of the Class 4A state championship tournament during the 2024-2025 season. The team, led by Head Coach Joe Gregory, faced significant challenges, including the tragic loss of Coach Gregory's wife, Cynthia, in January 2025. Despite this adversity, the Lady Comets achieved several milestones, including their first twenty-win season in eighteen years, their first conference championship, and their first appearance in the state championship semifinals, finishing the season with a record of 20 wins and 10 losses.
The resolution also recognizes the individual accomplishments of team members, with Kirsten Johnson and Jermera Streets earning All-State Honors, while several players received All-Conference Honors. The resolution concludes by expressing the Senate and House of Representatives' recognition of the team's achievements and remembrance of Cynthia Gregory, with a copy of the resolution to be presented to Coach Joe Gregory by the Secretary of the Senate.
