The resolution recognizes March 13, 2025, as Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc. Day at the State Capitol in Arkansas. Founded on September 19, 1963, at Morgan State University, Iota Phi Theta is a historically African American fraternity and is currently the fifth largest Black Greek-letter fraternity, boasting over 75,000 members worldwide and more than 350 chapters across various states and countries. In Arkansas, there are five undergraduate and two alumni chapters of the fraternity, which is a member of the National Pan-Hellenic Council, also known as the "Divine Nine."
The resolution highlights the fraternity's commitment to public service and community engagement, noting that several members have held significant public office positions in Arkansas, including city council members and mayors. It also emphasizes the fraternity's partnership with the Brown & Gold Public Affairs Committee to advocate for policies that support the rights of its members and the broader community. Upon adoption, a copy of the resolution will be presented to the leadership of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc. by the Secretary of the Senate.
