This bill amends Arkansas law to allow resident school districts to permit private school students to participate in interscholastic activities under specific conditions. It introduces a new section, 6-18-237, which defines key terms such as "athletic activity," "interscholastic activity," "parent," "private school," "resident school," and "resident school district." The bill stipulates that a resident school district or an open-enrollment public charter school may allow a private school student to engage in an interscholastic activity if the private school does not offer that activity, provided it is approved by the Arkansas Activities Association.
Additionally, the bill requires that if a private school student participates in an interscholastic activity that does not occur during a designated class period, they must be enrolled in a nonacademic class period that coincides with the activity. This enrollment is necessary for the resident school district to receive funding equivalent to one-sixth of the state foundation funding amount for the duration of the student's enrollment in the district.
