The proposed bill amends Arkansas Code 6-18-711 to require schools to provide specific educational information about Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes when disseminating other health information to parents and guardians of K-12 students. The new subsection mandates that if a school district shares information on immunizations, infectious diseases, or medications, it must also include details about the nature of Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, associated risk factors and warning signs, recommendations for consulting a primary care provider if warning signs are observed, and information on screening processes and treatment plans following a diagnosis.
Additionally, the bill stipulates that the Department of Education, in collaboration with the Department of Health, will develop and distribute this educational material to school districts and make it available on their websites. It clarifies that the diabetes-related information provided is intended solely for educational purposes and should not be interpreted as a medical diagnosis.
