Beginning her nursing career in 1979 at the Arkansas State Hospital, Brenda has worked in various capacities, including at Arkansas Children's Hospital, where she focused on behavioral health care for children and adolescents, and later in a clinical mental health setting at the Community Mental Health Center. She also earned her Psychiatric Certification during her tenure there.

Brenda's career has included ten years as a traveling nurse, allowing her to explore various locations such as Maine, the Virgin Islands, and Hawaii, before returning to work closer to home with the Department of Health's regional flu team and the H. Elvin Shuffield Capitol Infirmary during legislative sessions. Additionally, she is an active member of the National Nurses Honor Guard Coalition. The resolution acknowledges her significant contributions to nursing and her commitment to the health and well-being of the citizens of Arkansas.
