8 TO RECOGNIZE AND CONGRATULATE THE UNIVERSITY OF
9 ARKANSAS AT PINE BLUFF MEN'S GOLF TEAM FOR WINNING
10 THE 2024 SOUTHWESTERN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE GOLF
11 CHAMPIONSHIP.

24 WHEREAS, the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff men's golf team
25 bested Florida A&M University with a nine-stroke advantage in the 2024
26 Southwestern Athletic Conference Golf Champsionship to win the championship
27 title, following just one (1) year after winning the program's first
28 conference title; and
29
30 WHEREAS, with the conference championship win, the team earned an
31 automatic bid to the NCAA D1 Men's Golf Championship, where they competed in
32 the NCAA Regional in Norman, Oklahoma; and
33
34 WHEREAS, the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff men's golf program
35 won the 2023 Bridgestone HBCU Invitational; and

1 WHEREAS, University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff men's golf Head Coach
2 Roger Totten received his fifth consecutive Coach of the Year award by the
3 coaches in the Southwestern Athletic Conference; and
4
5 WHEREAS, three (3) golfers also received individual awards, with
6 freshman Jose Berenguel being named Low Medalist, Freshman of the Year, and
7 All-SWAC First Team, Sophomore Isamael Garcia winning his second consecutive
8 All-SWAC First Team award, and freshman Jules De Reu winning his first All-
9 SWAC Second Team Award; and
10
11 WHEREAS, with these individual awards, the Golden Lions had their
12 second consecutive year of winning two (2) of the highest individual awards;
13 and
14
15 WHEREAS, Head Coach Totten stated, "The program is on the rise with
16 momentum. I am thrilled for the student-athletes and the university, as we
17 are on our way to the top. I am proud of how Jose and the team stepped up
18 and performed in the last three days, bringing home the hardware"; and
19
20 WHEREAS, the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff men's golfers are not
21 only extraordinary athletes but are great students as well, averaging a 3.54
22 GPA,

24 NOW THEREFORE,
25 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL
26 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ARKANSAS:

28 THAT the House of Representatives recognize and congratulate the
29 University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff men's golf team as the 2024 Southwestern
30 Athletic Conference Champions.

32 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT upon adoption of this resolution, a copy be
33 provided to Head Coach Roger Totten by the Chief Clerk of the House of
34 Representatives.
