7 SENATE RESOLUTION
8 TO RECOGNIZE THE MT. VERNON-ENOLA LADY WARHAWKS
9 BASKETBALL TEAM AS THE CLASS 2A STATE BASKETBALL

16 STATE BASKETBALL CHAMPIONS.

18 WHEREAS, in their first year to move from Class 1A to Class 2A, the Mt.
19 Vernon-Enola Lady Warhawks basketball team won the Class 2A Arkansas State
20 Basketball Championship on March 11, 2023; and
21
22 WHEREAS, the nine-member Lady Warhawks team included Dessie McCarty,
23 A. J. Person, Marlee Raby, Olivia McClelland, Coree Kyle, Alyssa Gilbert,
24 Jaley Belote, Jordan Rodgers, and Charity Pruett; and
25
26 WHEREAS, the Lady Warhawks team brought home the first-ever state
27 basketball championship to the Mt. Vernon-Enola School District; and
28
29 WHEREAS, the Mt. Vernon-Enola Lady Warhawks basketball team had an
30 overall record of 38-5 for the 2022-2023 season, won the 2A-2 Conference
31 Championship, won the 2A-2 Central District Tournament Championship, and was
32 the runner-up in the 2A Central Region Tournament; and

34 WHEREAS, three (3) members of the Lady Warhawks team – Dessie McCarty,
35 A. J. Person, and Marlee Raby – were given All District honors and were named
36 to the All-State Tournament Team, with Dessie McCarty and Marlee Raby also

1 being named as All-State athletes; and

3 WHEREAS, Dessie McCarty was selected as the most valuable player in the
4 state tournament, scoring thirty-six (36) points in the championship game;
5 and
6
7 WHEREAS, the members of the Mt. Vernon-Enola Lady Warhawks basketball
8 team were guided to their many wins by devoted Head Coach Adam Carlton, as
9 well as assistant coach Drew Blocker, and they were supported by team
10 managers Addy Meaders and Avery Simmons and video technician Gunner Person,
11 and were cheered on by fans from their school, community, and families; and
12
13 WHEREAS, Head Coach Adam Carlton, who was chosen as the Class 2A Coach
14 of the Year in girls basketball, said about his team winning the state
15 championship, "All of the kids have worked so hard ... It's been a great
16 feeling," and he said that the team's success is a "testament" to his
17 players,

19 NOW THEREFORE,
20 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE
21 STATE OF ARKANSAS:

23 THAT the Senate recognize the Lady Warhawks basketball team as the
24 Class 2A State Basketball Champions and congratulate the team for winning the
25 first state basketball championship in Mt. Vernon-Enola history and for the
26 many achievements of their team, players, and coaches.

28 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT upon adoption, a copy of this resolution shall be
29 provided to Head Coach Adam Carlton by the Secretary of the Senate.
