9 HENDRIX COLLEGE, UPON HIS RETIREMENT AND COMMENDING
10 HIM FOR HIS THIRTY-THREE YEARS OF CONTRIBUTIONS TO
11 HIGHER EDUCATION, HENDRIX COLLEGE, AND THE STATE OF
12 ARKANSAS.

20 HIGHER EDUCATION, HENDRIX COLLEGE, AND
21 THE STATE OF ARKANSAS.

23 WHEREAS, W. Ellis Arnold III, Hendrix College Class of 1979, has
24 faithfully served his alma mater since 1990, as Vice President for
25 Development and College Relations, Senior Executive Vice President, Dean of
26 Advancement, and General Counsel, and, since December 2019, as President; and
27
28 WHEREAS, after graduating from Hendrix College, President Arnold
29 received a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Arkansas at Little
30 Rock William H. Bowen School of Law, practiced law, and further nurtured his
31 expertise through successful leadership tenures at Lambuth University in
32 Jackson, Tennessee, and Pulaski Academy in Little Rock, Arkansas, before
33 returning to his alma mater; and
34
35 WHEREAS, President Arnold has exemplified the highest values of Hendrix
36 College as an ambassador of the institution in his service to the United

1 Methodist Church and numerous civic, community, and educational
2 organizations; and
3
4 WHEREAS, President Arnold is retiring from Hendrix College in June 2023
5 as the twelfth president of Hendrix College; and
6
7 WHEREAS, upon conferring him with the title of President Emeritus, the
8 Hendrix College Board of Trustees expressed its deep appreciation and
9 gratitude to President Arnold for his commitment to the long-term prosperity
10 of Hendrix College, his calm and steady focus on the institution’s highest
11 priorities through both challenging and rewarding times, his thoughtful
12 analysis of strategic planning initiatives and decision making, and his deep
13 love for the mission of Hendrix College, which has served the college well
14 through his tenure and resulted in the successful completion of historic
15 campaign fundraising milestones, enrollment and endowment growth, and growing
16 recognition of Hendrix College as a leading national liberal arts college,
17
18 NOW THEREFORE,
19 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE
20 STATE OF ARKANSAS:
21
22 THAT the Senate commend W. Ellis Arnold III for his distinguished
23 service to Hendrix College and the State of Arkansas, thank him for his
24 countless contributions, and wish him all the best in his retirement.
25
26 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT, upon adoption, the Secretary of the Senate
27 provide a copy of this resolution to W. Ellis Arnold III.
