19 WHEREAS, on March 11, 2023, the Manila High School Lions Boys
20 Basketball Team won the 2023 Class 3A Boys State Basketball Championship at
21 the Bank OZK Arena in Hot Springs, Arkansas; and
22
23 WHEREAS, the Manila High School Lions Boys Basketball Team defeated the
24 Bergman High School Boys Basketball Team in overtime by a score of sixty-one
25 (61) to fifty-seven (57); and
26
27 WHEREAS, the Manila High School Lions Boys Basketball Team had a
28 conference record of eleven (11) wins and one (1) loss, an overall record of
29 thirty-one (31) wins and five (5) losses, and were the Class 3A-3 Conference
30 and District champions; and

32 WHEREAS, the Manila High School Lions Boys Basketball Team is coached
33 by Head Coach Lee Wimberley, the Assistant Coach is Heath Matheny, and the
34 Volunteer Assistant Coach is Matthew May; and
35
36 WHEREAS, Brayden Nunnally was named the State Tournament Most Valuable

1 Player and was named to the All-State, All-State Tournament, All-Region, and
2 All-Conference Teams; and

4 WHEREAS, Jaron Burrow was named to the All-State, All-State Tournament,
5 and All-Conference Teams, Luke Kirk was named to the All-State Tournament and
6 All-Conference Teams, Costner Smith was named to the All-Conference Team, and
7 Rex Farmer was named to the All-Conference Team; and

9 WHEREAS, the Manila High School Lions Boys Basketball Team includes
10 Brayden Nunnally, Jaron Burrow, Luke Kirk, Costner Smith, Rex Farmer, Luke
11 Beach, Koltan Kisner, Tannyn Palmer, Brian Neal, Kohner Gann, Colton Burns,
12 Kendan Crane, Carson Baltimore, and Hudson Harrison; and
13
14 WHEREAS, Coach Wimberly stated “I’ve been a part of teams since I was a
15 child, whether playing or coaching, and in those forty (40) plus years, I
16 have never seen a team that enjoyed being around each other more than this
17 group. They truly played for one another, each individual accepting his role
18 for the team, and his teammates. They embodied what a team truly is, and that
19 is why they are State Champions.”,

21 NOW THEREFORE,
22 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE
23 STATE OF ARKANSAS:

25 THAT the Senate recognize the Manila High School Lions Boys Basketball
26 Team for winning the 2023 Class 3A Boys Basketball State Championship.

28 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT upon adoption, a copy of this resolution shall be
29 provided to Head Coach Wimberly by the Secretary of the Senate.
