The bill amends Arkansas law regarding the suspension of a driver's license following a seizure. It introduces a new section, 27-16-917, which outlines the conditions under which a driver's license may be suspended or reinstated after a seizure. The Office of Driver Services is mandated to suspend a person's driver's license for six months following any seizure, regardless of medication status. However, exceptions are made for individuals who experience nocturnal seizures, an aura prior to a seizure, or seizures resulting from temporary medical conditions, which would exempt them from the six-month suspension.
Additionally, the bill allows for earlier reinstatement of a driver's license—after three months—if the individual has experienced a breakthrough seizure or an isolated seizure. The legislation also requires individuals to apply for reinstatement at the end of their suspension period and grants the Office of Driver Services the authority to create necessary rules for implementing these changes.
