8 TO RECOGNIZE SPRINGHILL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AS A 2022
9 EXEMPLARY HIGH PERFORMING NATIONAL BLUE RIBBON

16 NATIONAL BLUE RIBBON SCHOOL.

18 WHEREAS, Springhill Elementary School was recognized by the United
19 States Department of Education as a National Blue Ribbon School in 2022; and
20
21 WHEREAS, recognition as a National Blue Ribbon School is based on a
22 school's overall academic performance or progress in closing achievement gaps
23 among student subgroups; and
24
25 WHEREAS, National Blue Ribbon Schools serve as models of effective
26 school practices for state and district educators and other schools
27 throughout the nation; and
28
29 WHEREAS, Exemplary High Performing Schools are among their state's
30 highest performing schools as measured by state assessments or nationally
31 normed tests; and
32
33 WHEREAS, Springhill Elementary School was recognized by the United
34 States Department of Education as having a strong collaboration with parents,
35 families, teachers, administrators, and the community towards its efforts in
36 educating the school’s students; and

2 WHEREAS, Springhill Elementary has a student population of five hundred
3 sixty (560) in kindergarten through grade five (K-5); and
4
5 WHEREAS, Springhill Elementary achieved Leader in Me Lighthouse School
6 status in 2019 recognizing the school as a great example of a strong
7 leadership model and of what it means to be a Leader in Me School; and
8
9 WHEREAS, each year Springhill Elementary makes significant gains in
10 student achievement and has been celebrated as an Arkansas Reward School and
11 recognized for high growth scores through the Office for Education Policy;
12 and
13
14 WHEREAS, Bryant Superintendent, Dr. Karen Walters, said, “I could not
15 be more proud of the staff and administrators at Springhill. It is so good to
16 see their hard work, dedication, and love for the students recognized with a
17 national honor.”; and
18
19 WHEREAS, Springhill Elementary Principal Russ Sherrill said, “Achieving
20 this recognition is a tremendous honor. Like all schools across this state,
21 we, too, work hard and spend long hours to ensure that our students are
22 academically, socially, and emotionally successful. Every day I am so
23 thankful for the efforts of our faculty and staff, the hard work of our
24 students, the support from our parents, and the vision and direction we
25 receive from our district. This community of learners is amazing, and I am
26 blessed to be part of it.”; and
27
28 WHEREAS, the students of Springhill Elementary School are to be
29 commended for their hard work, dedication, and excellence in education,
30
31 NOW THEREFORE,
32 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE
33 STATE OF ARKANSAS:

35 THAT the Senate recognize Springhill Elementary School as a 2022
36 Exemplary High Performing National Blue Ribbon School.

2 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT upon adoption, a copy of this resolution shall be
3 provided to Springhill Elementary School Principal Russ Sherrill by the
4 Secretary of the Senate.
