8 TO REMEMBER DETECTIVE PAUL NEWELL AND TO RECOGNIZE
9 HIS SERVICE TO THE STATE OF ARKANSAS.

17 WHEREAS, on December 17, 2022, Detective Paul Newell of the Benton
18 County Sheriff’s Office died in the line of duty while escorting Wreaths
19 Across America in a procession through Bentonville; and
20
21 WHEREAS, Detective Newell was hired by the Benton County Sheriff’s
22 Office on December 1, 1998, to work in the detention department before his
23 graduation from the Arkansas Law Enforcement Training Academy; and
24
25 WHEREAS, during Detective Newell’s career with the Benton County
26 Sheriff’s Office he served as a patrol deputy, patrol sergeant, training
27 sergeant, and as a lieutenant in the administration section; and
28
29 WHEREAS, at the time of his death, Detective Newell served as a
30 detective in the Criminal Investigation Division of the Benton County
31 Sheriff’s Office; and
32
33 WHEREAS, Detective Newell helped to establish the Benton County
34 Sheriff’s Office Motor Division after graduating from the Police Motorcycle
35 Operator’s Course in 2006; and

1 WHEREAS, Detective Newell had a love of motorcycles and became a
2 certified Harley Davidson technician in 2021 and was instrumental in the
3 maintenance and operation of the Benton County Sheriff’s Office motorcycle
4 fleet; and

6 WHEREAS, Lieutenant Shannon Jenkins with the Benton County Sheriff's
7 Office stated that Detective Newell is leaving behind a long legacy with the
8 department as a man of many hats through his 24-year career; and
9
10 WHEREAS, Detective Newell was known to all for being deeply committed
11 to the community he served and perhaps most of all, as a police officer who
12 exemplified the role of "to protect and serve",
13
14 NOW THEREFORE,
15 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE
16 STATE OF ARKANSAS:

18 THAT the Senate honor the memory of Detective Paul Newell, extend
19 sincere condolences to his family, and recognize his contributions to the
20 State of Arkansas and his local community.
21
22 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT upon adoption, a copy of this resolution be
23 provided to the family of Detective Newell by the Secretary of the Senate.
