7 SENATE MEMORIAL RESOLUTION
8 TO REMEMBER DR. KENNETH LLOYD COON, SR., AND TO
9 RECOGNIZE HIS CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE STATE OF ARKANSAS.

14 AND TO RECOGNIZE HIS CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE
15 STATE OF ARKANSAS.

18 WHEREAS, Dr. Kenneth Lloyd “Ken” Coon, Sr., was born on October 14,
19 1935, and died on December 8, 2022; and
20
21 WHEREAS, after moving to Arkansas, Dr. Coon joined the Arkansas Jaycees
22 and became the charter president of the Tuckerman Jaycees from 1966 to 1967
23 and from 1971 to 1972 served as the president of the Arkansas Jaycees during
24 which he was named one of the five (5) outstanding state presidents in the
25 nation; and

27 WHEREAS, Dr. Coon was integral in the establishment of the two-party
28 system in Arkansas and was determined to build the Republican Party in
29 Arkansas for over twenty (20) years; and
30
31 WHEREAS, Dr. Coon ran for the position of the Lieutenant Governor in
32 1972, the position of Governor in 1974, and for United States Congress in
33 1996 and while unsuccessful, he believed in the Republican Party and wanted
34 to give the citizens of the State of Arkansas credible candidates in both
35 parties to vote for; and

1 WHEREAS, in addition to running for elected offices in Arkansas, Dr.
2 Coon served as the Executive Director of the Republican Party in Arkansas
3 from 1972 to 1976, served as a county chairman, district chairman and the
4 state chairman of the Republican Party from 1988 to 1990; and
5
6 WHEREAS, Dr. Coon left his position as the Executive Director for the
7 Republican Party to begin work on his doctorate in counselor education at the
8 University of Arkansas at Fayetteville and after completing his doctorate,
9 built a successful management consulting practice serving central Arkansas
10 and became a pioneer in Arkansas for developing new methods of improving the
11 effectiveness of individuals, work teams, and organizations; and
12
13 WHEREAS, when not busy in his practice or civic endeavors, Dr. Coon
14 spent time on his beloved farm with his family; and
15
16 WHEREAS, Dr. Coon leaves behind his wife of sixty-six (66) years, Sue
17 Lynn Thompson Coon, children Catherine and Ken, Jr., and numerous loved ones,
18 family, friends, and coworkers who laughed with and benefited from the joy of
19 knowing Dr. Coon,

21 NOW THEREFORE,
22
23 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE
24 STATE OF ARKANSAS:
25
26 THAT the Senate remember Dr. Coon for his service and dedication to the
27 State of Arkansas and extend sincere condolences to the family.

29 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT upon adoption, a copy of this resolution be
30 provided to the family by the Secretary of the Senate.
