The Legislature of Alabama honors Senior Trooper Hunter Woodruff with the 2026 Alabama Legislative Meritorious Service Award for Law Enforcement, recognizing his extraordinary courage and decisive actions in the line of duty. On November 12, 2025, while on Highway 14 in Autauga County, Trooper Woodruff observed a Prattville Police Department vehicle responding to an emergency. He promptly activated his own emergency lights and followed the officer to an apartment complex, where they discovered a gunshot victim on the ground.
Trooper Woodruff immediately began administering lifesaving first aid to the victim, who had sustained two gunshot wounds. He applied a sterilized clotting agent and gauze to control the bleeding while keeping the victim calm until paramedics arrived. His swift and effective response was credited with saving the victim's life, as noted by Prattville Fire Chief Josh Bingham. The resolution expresses profound gratitude and admiration for Trooper Woodruff's exemplary service and dedication to the safety of Alabama residents.
