The Alabama Legislature proudly recognizes the achievements of public schools and educators in the state, particularly highlighting the recent accomplishments of Houston County Schools. At the ALA-CASE spring conference held in Birmingham, Houston County Schools employees received four prestigious awards, including Dr. Misty Freeman being named Director of the Year, and both Margaret Valenza and Haden Brown receiving Teacher of the Year honors, while Sylvia Ketron was recognized as Paraprofessional of the Year.
Additionally, the Houston County School District was honored at the State Board of Education Meeting for receiving the Top County System Performance Award, ranking first among all 67 counties in achievement scores on the Alabama Comprehensive Assessment Program (ACAP) summative test. The resolution commends Houston County Schools for their outstanding performance and exceptional achievements, reflecting the pride they bring to their local community and the entire state of Alabama.
