The bill amends Section 45-22-70.01 of the Code of Alabama 1975, specifically regarding the structure and meeting requirements of the Cullman County Commission. The current law, which is being deleted, states that the county commission is composed of three members elected at large until November 2022. The new language introduces a revised structure for the commission, which will consist of a chair and four associate commissioners, with the associate commissioners elected from designated districts within the county. The terms for the associate commissioners will be staggered, with some serving two years initially and others serving four years, while the chair will serve a full-time role for a four-year term.

Additionally, the bill establishes new requirements for the commission's meeting schedule. The previous requirement for at least one monthly meeting after 6:00 p.m. has been replaced with a mandate for the commission to hold meetings as required by Section 11-3-8, including the obligation to post and publish the schedule of meetings. The commission is also granted the authority to alter regular meeting days and schedule special meetings as necessary. The act is set to take effect on October 1, 2026.
