This bill amends Section 45-22-70.01 of the Code of Alabama 1975, specifically regarding the composition and meeting requirements of the Cullman County Commission. The current structure of the commission, which consists of three members elected at large, is replaced with a new structure that includes a chair and four associate commissioners, effective from November 2022. Each associate commissioner will represent a specific district within the county, and the terms for these positions will be staggered, with some serving two years initially and others serving four years. The chair will continue to serve a four-year term and will be a full-time position, while the associate commissioners will serve part-time.
Additionally, the bill introduces new requirements for the commission's meeting schedule. It mandates that the commission hold at least one meeting each month after 6:00 p.m. to facilitate public attendance, as required by Section 11-3-8. The commission is also required to post and publish the details of their meetings and has the authority to alter regular meeting days or schedule special meetings as needed. The effective date for this act is set for October 1, 2026.
